Oxymore

OXYMORE is the first recording project of this scale, entirely conceived and composed in multi channel and binaural audio.

OXYMORE began as a collaboration that never happened. Jarre had planned to work with Pierre Henry — one of his formative influences — but Henry died in 2017 before the project could be completed. He had, however, already recorded sound material for it. Jarre built the album on top of those fragments, choosing specific sounds for specific tracks, so Henry is present in the record rather than simply referenced by it.

The result is an homage to the French approach to modern and electroacoustic music, to musique concrète, and to Jarre's early studies at the GRM, where Henry and Pierre Schaeffer shaped the future of electronic music worldwide.
