About

About the album

EōN takes its name from the Greek deity of time and eternity — a span measured in ages rather than minutes.

The project is an endless musical and visual creation living primarily as an app: on every device and every launch, a unique, ever-evolving orchestration of sound and image that never repeats. Jarre has described it as an organic art piece that keeps growing inside each listener's own space-time, and as possibly his most exciting creative project since Oxygène.

The visuals came out of Sony Computer Science Laboratories in Tokyo, where Jarre found Alexis André; Sony CSL and André built the algorithm generating the endless graphic flow. The audio engine and its governing algorithm were engineered by Alexis Zbik and Vianney Apreleff of BLEASS, working to rules defined with Jarre.

Which leaves a problem: how do you release an infinite work as a finite object? Snapshots From EōN is the answer. Three recordings captured from the system — two from the first tests of the music engine, and a third made shortly before the app's release — fixed in place so they can be held and replayed.

Issued December 2019 in a numbered edition of 2,000: a 33cm coffee-table art book of 56 pages, two 180g picture-disc vinyl, two CDs, and a hand-signed certificate of authenticity. The book's illustrations are themselves snapshots — stills pulled from André's generative visual world.
