On New Year's Eve 2020, Jarre took the world inside a building no one could enter.
Welcome to the Other Side was a live-streamed concert set in a virtual reconstruction of Notre-Dame de Paris, made with the support of UNESCO and the City of Paris. Jarre performed from Studio Gabriel near the cathedral; his avatar played inside the digital one.
The fifty-minute set drew on Electronica alongside reworked versions of Oxygène and Equinoxe, reframing the classics for a space that existed only in rendering. It was created, designed and produced in three months by a team of around a hundred artists and technicians, and reached an audience in the tens of millions across streaming platforms and broadcast.
The recording was released on 10 September 2021 in an unusually wide set of formats, in keeping with a concert about presence and space: CD, gatefold vinyl with poster, and Blu-ray carrying the concert film alongside 5.1 mixes. Physical editions include a download code for the binaural master and for the 360° Notre-Dame de Paris video produced by Ubisoft.
